I finally did it. After talking with a few of my friends about food prep and reading a few other blogs about it, I finally did my first Sunday food prep for the week. So you may now be wondering what did I prep? Here’s the list

Put almond butter and garlic hummus in containers to go with snacks

cut up cucumbers and celery

made cauliflower fried “rice”

chicken is in the oven 

making quinoa for the quinoa cinnamon bake 

I usually eat an apple and almond butter each day BUT since apples usually go brown I wait until that morning to cut them up OR I bring my apple slicer to work and do it there. So there ya go! My first Sunday meal prep. My kitchen is a mess but I’m sure it will be worth it this week!

Yum! Protein Shake Recipe

I know this may not look like some extraordinary protein shake. But, trust me it is! I made one this morning and it was probably the best one I’ve ever made and I am going to be nice enough to share the recipe with you! 

I didn’t really measure things out and you can definitely add more or less of something if you want. I also thought this would be good with a little peanut butter added in. 

 

Cinnamon Banana Protein Shake

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

1/4-1/2 tsp cinnamon

2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 banana

Directions: Throw it all in the blender until it is all mixed. Enjoy!

On pretty much any given day you can find me carrying one of my favorite snacks with me. It’s so simple too and that’s part of why I love it. It’s an apple and peanut butter and it has helped me out in many tricky situations. I usually throw an apple in my bag along with a slicer and a little cup of peanut butter. Some days I don’t eat it but some days I wish I had an unlimited supply! 

The best times I have found to have this snack in my bag is when I am craving something sweet and/or chocolaty. It doesn’t sound like it would fix a sweet tooth but I swear to you it totally does!

My gym clothes drawer

 

I thought since I went over my most hated running capris that I would do the opposite and show you some of my favorites. I have a HUGE drawer full of gym clothes. I actually probably have about as many gym clothes as I do work clothes. My husband even has to cut me off from buying them sometimes…..It’s kind of an obsession. My two favorite things to run in are my gap tank top and my running room running capris pictured above. 

I bought the running capris when I first started running about five years ago. Through all of my running they have held up really well. I have looked many times when I have gone to the store and I don’t think they actually sell them anymore. If they do start selling them again I will be first in line. I love them because they don’t look like tights. They flare out around the knee and I think they breath better and just make me look better too.

The tank top is one that I got last year after I had lost about 20 lbs. I had gone shopping with my sister and seen it but didn’t want to pay $20 for it…..I’m cheap when it comes to buying gym clothes. I went shopping with her a few weeks later and saw it on sale for $11.99 PLUS 40% off on top of that so they basically gave it to me. They still had my size and I decided it was meant to be!

Well, I have a confession to make. I am a caffeine addict, more specifically, I am a pop addict. I gave it up a year ago while my friend Ashley gave up alcohol. I told her that I wouldn’t drink any pop as long as she didn’t drink any alcohol. Well Ashley, I’m sorry but I failed. Wait though! Hear me out! After reading a post on a page that I follow of an acquaintance that I met through WW, I saw what a difference not drinking pop had done for her. I decided it’s time to jump back on the band wagon of not drinking pop. My addiction has gotten bad, I mean really bad. I at one point drank 3 20 oz bottles at work. I’ve been thinking to myself too what a major contradiction this is to the rest of my life. I try to eat relatively clean and at least try to eat healthy with minimal sugar. I also try to workout as much as possible yet I still seem to feel just fine doing it. I texted Zack this morning to let him know that as of today no more pop for me! So here I go on yet another “journey.”

DOC Workout!

Have you ever tried a Deck of Cards workout? It is by far one of my favorite workouts ever! My friend Heather and I discovered them last year when they did one on the Biggest Loser and it was our go to workout at least once a week. I usually make up my own thing to do and today I really emphasized arms! I usually try to put something a little more difficult for the Jokers and today we actually skipped them. The gym we belong to doesn’t have stairs and I figured I would be nice for my first timer husband. 😉  Zack and I both did the workout at the gym and we are both feeling it now. We even had another gym goer ask us what we were doing. Before Zack started coming to the gym with me I think he thought a Deck of Cards workout was code for Easy Day. I showed him today! Try this workout if you really want your arms to burn! 

I wanna be a roller girl!

Last night I went to the North Star Roller Girls Roller Derby with my sister and some of her friends. Her husband was playing with his band Queen of France at the half time show. I have gone to a few bouts before and had a lot of fun. My friend Nikki is on the team the Violent Femmes which makes it even more fun to watch. The first time I saw a bout I wanted to be a roller girl so bad! Last night just solidified it for me. My only problem is that I know how to roller blade but not sure that I could actually roller skate. I decided that I am going to give it a try one weekend at a roller rink and see if I can even do it. I remember doing it when I was very young and also remember that things may not have gone the greatest. Hopefully since I am older and so much wiser now I can make it happen. 

My biggest fear you ask? Breaking another bone. I’ve talked to a few people and this is what holds them back as well. Plus watching some of the girls last night scared the crap out of me! They are vicious!

The most annoying thing at the gym…..

Today I encountered one of the most annoying things at the gym. It’s happened before and you would think I would’ve learned my lesson last time but I guess not. I’m not talking about having to wait forever for a machine. I’m not even talking about, running on the treadmill next to the sweatiest/smelliest person ever. I’m talking about clothing malfunctions. It’s happened before and I’m sure it will happen again. I brought my gym back with sports bra, moisture wicking shirt, socks, shoes, and running capris. Ahhh, the running capris, they can make or break any workout and today it broke mine. The pair that I ran in today used to be one of my favorite pairs but for right now they will remain in the drawer. I did a short 36 minute run/walk today and anytime that I would begin running my capris started to fall off.  You may think that this would be a great thing and it would seem like I am losing wait but don’t let me fool you. These capris could not contain my butt causing them to constantly fall down during my run. I sucked it up and pulled them up during my walking portions but dreaded the run and all that it would bring with it. I still love these capris and will run in them someday, but for now I need to get my butt in gear….literally.

Which way to the fitness test…..

I decided that for the next 6 weeks I will be following a plan for working out. I found it on the weekly workout. Today is Day one and its the fitness test which consists of

  • 1 mile run
  • 1 minute jumping jacks
  • 1 minute pushups
  • 1 minute crunches
  • 1 minute plank

I’m really looking forward to doing this, especially since my husband joined the gym that I am going to now! I don’t know if he’ll actually do this but maybe a little blog pressure will help!

A step in the right direction…..

My delicious salad that I’ve had for lunch the past two days!

 

This week I’ve made a lot of progress from where I was last week. Last week I was depressed because I was at one of the highest weights I’ve been at in a long time. 

This week I joined a gym and have been eating clean about 90% of the time. When it hasn’t been clean eating its hardly been cheating and I don’t like to consider it cheating anyway. Nobody is perfect 100% of the time and if you are then let me know your secret. 😉

The first step this week was downloading a new book to my kind called Salads to Go. I highly recommend and its FREE right now! The picture of the salad is of the Crunchy Basil Salad. I didn’t make it in the mason jar like it suggests but I don’t think that takes away from the pure amazingness of the salad! 

The second thing I did this week was join a gym. I did my first workout today and although it was pretty easy considering what I was doing before my foot injury it felt great to get back to it. I am doing the couch to 5k program plus I am doing a push up challenge and plank challenge. I did 15 push ups today and a 30 second plank. The first half mile was a little painful but I pushed through it and felt just fine at the end….actually better than fine, I felt great!
